Massage Therapist Kim Young C.M.T.
Before I found massage as a profession, I was a naturalist, botanist, and Nordic ski instructor. I had originally gone to school for Sports Medicine but had gotten side tracked by the outdoors and ended up with a Biology and Botany degree. So when people ask me how I ended up in massage, I trace the moment back to an intuitive healer who told me that I was supposed to be a massage therapist, which made me curious.
As an avid athlete (skier, Nordic skier, ski mountaineering racer, trail runner, climber, and mountain biker), massage helps me speed up recovery from activity and keeps me grounded and happy. Human touch is so important for our mental and physical health and I wanted to share the benefits of massage with others. I also wanted to make a difference in the world and massage felt like a way I could do so. In 2001, I enrolled at the Phillips School of Massage in California and completed a 600-hour program.
While in massage school, I also trained to become a Reiki Master so that I would have a strong base in energy work. Integrating energy work into the massage experience has become the foundation of my style.
After graduating from massage school, I worked full time for a physical therapist for 6 months. I wanted more specific knowledge in helping clients with injuries as well as preparing for and recovery from athletic activities. I then enrolled in 200 hours of continuing education courses dedicated to sports injury and orthopedic massage at the Boulder College of Massage Therapy and later at Heartwood Institute in northern CA. In 2013, while in recovery from a lumbar fusion, I earned a certification in personal training. I am always learning as much as I can so I can best help my clients. Other areas of certification include reflexology, lymph drainage, active isolated stretching, prenatal, and postpartum massage.
Massage has been an amazing journey and has changed my life. I am very passionate about my work and love what I do. I believe that people need human touch and that people need to connect with and respect themselves before they can respect others and the earth.
I am very grateful for all of my clients and look forward to working with new clients.
Thank you,
Kim Young
